1930년대 호주 원주민들의 거주지인 광활한 땅 아넘랜드를 배경으로 한 이 영화는 백인들에 의해 부족이 몰살당한 후 홀로 도망쳐 백인 선교사에 의해 키워진 한 원주민 소년 굿축의 이야기로 시작한다. 12년이 흐른 후, 몰살된 부족의 전사인 굿축의 삼촌 바이와라는 백인들의 목장을 공격하는 저항군의 리더가 되고, 굿축은 자신을 키워준 이들과 자신의 부족 사이에서 선택의 기로에 놓인다....
