車維爾是灰熊癡，保護灰熊不遺餘力之外，1999年開始每個夏天都要到阿拉斯加保護區跟這種會吃人的動物相處一段日子，直至2003年他和女友都給大灰熊吞噬。德國著名大導演華納荷索驚聞噩耗，打道往美國發掘傳奇真相。影片大部份畫中來自車維爾自拍的一百小時錄像，執迷與狂熱令他在鏡頭前變得魅力非凡，他為每頭熊改名字，為牠們打鬥旁述，為牠們每個動作興奮。但美得最戰競的時刻，正如荷索指出，是他和幾頭有名有性的狐狸洽相處時，拍下他們的腳步和友善的身影，還有無心拍成的大自然空鏡。...
